Chewing Wrigley's Out

I must confess that BB (Before Bieler – Mentor), gum and I were “too close”. My sister Mary, sweet teacher, has begged me to leave bubble gum out.  We all have vices, and that is hers. After noting many gum chewers, some very enthusiastic obvious ones, it occurred to me that gum has probably turned evil.  It has! Wrigley’s is an awful word, and very deceptive in their wording about their company’s practices.  To be fair, I will quote directly from their ingredient site.

What Gum is Made: Ingredients used in Wrigley’s gum are extensively tested to ensure that their quality meets the standards of all local and international government food regulations.

Gum Base - Gum base puts the “chew” in chewing gum, binding all the ingredients together for a smooth, soft texture.  The Wrigley Company uses synthetic gum base materials for a consistent and safe base that provides longer-lasting flavor, improved texture and reduced tackiness.

Sweeteners - The finest grades of pure powdered cane sugar, beet sugar and corn syrup are used in the production of Wrigley’s sugar-sweetened chewing gums.

Several types of high-intensity sweeteners are used in Wrigley’s sugar-free products and as flavor enhancers in some other brands.  These artificial sweeteners deliver long-lasting, no caloric taste and do not promote tooth-decay. They include: *Acesulfame K, *Aspartame, *Maltitol, *Sucralose, *Sorbitol, *Xylitol

Softeners and Bulking Agents - Glycerin and other vegetable oil products help keep the gum soft and flexible by retaining the proper amount of moisture in Wrigley products.  Ingredients like mannitol and sorbitol ensure the proper density of a product.

Note:  Flavorings and Colorings - The most popular flavors for chewing gums come from the mint plant.  Mint flavoring for Wrigley’s chewing gums is extracted from fresh mint plants grown on farms in the United States.  After the plants are harvested, they go through a distillation process that extracts the oils used for flavoring Wrigley brands.  Other Wrigley brands are flavored by a variety of fruit and spice essences.  Colorings are used to distinguish different flavors.

Now, for some bits of truth:  Wrigley’s contains at least six major hits of that trashy Aspartame which may create up to 92 symptoms of bad health.  It is loaded with wood alcohol, and sold to children and adults alike!  Their gum has not been tested in any positive way, and it promotes tooth decay!  Their colorings may cause cancer!

This company tries to insinuate they use healthy mint, etc.  Tritely put, they are “hiding the donkey with the ears showing”.  (Note: I’m reverting to my Texas heritage).  This gum (unchewed and near a waste basket) was purchased from a Martin County “poison palace” (oops, I mean store).

As it has waited to be written about, the gums have as predicted by me, hardened like a brick!  Check out Trident, Dentyne, Bubblicious, Juicy Fruit, you name it.  These are nothing but health-robbing chemical sticks.  Aspartame, MSG, and many other awful chemicals.

What is sad is the Aspartame Hot Line Specialist, Mary Nash Stoddard, has long hours of duty counseling pilots who have indulged in sugar-free gum and sodas before and during flights.  They have confessed to seizures, cardiac attacks, and other reactions during flights with many people on board!  This strong lady is trying to aid pilots who fly domestic and military flights.

Some she knows about crashed with no warning.  These “poison sticks” might be the end of a great career and possibly some lives.  Due to the addiction of Aspartame.  Thanks to Wrigley Corporation, Monsanto and greed!!

The Poison in American-Made Chewing Gum - Whatever the reason, chewing gum in America is laced with aspartame, an artificial sweetener that is known as an excitotoxin.  They call it that because the chemical in it is toxic and excites brain cells to the point of killing them.

The makers of aspartame, commonly sold under the brand names Equal, NutraSweet and Spoonful, say the ingredients include phenylalanine and aspartic acid, both amino acids that are normally found in the foods we eat.  But they can only be considered harmless when consumed in combinations with other amino acids.

On their own, these two amino acids become excitotoxins that enter the central nervous system in abnormally high concentrations, causing aberrant neuronal firing and cell death.  The results are often headaches, mental confusion, problems of balance and even seizures.

Migraine headache sufferers often find that their problem is eased or goes away completely if they give up consuming soft drinks, gum and foods that contain Aspartame or the other major excitotoxin dumped in our commercially produced foods, like monosodium glutamate.

Among the worst products that contain aspartame is chewing gum.  An article by Dr. James Bowen explains that aspartame in gum “is absorbed directly through the buccal mucsa of the tongue, mouth and gums, making it a far worse poisoning than even if it were given intravenously.”  He wrote that “the nerves serving this area and their vascular supply derive directly from the brain, so the Aspartame absorbed through them goes directly into the brain, by passing the spinal cord and blood brain barrier.

Bowen said Aspartame is such a dangerous and mentally destructive substance that he suggests its massive dumping into the American food chain with FDA approval may have been done on purpose.

“The devastation of the human brain is the primary reason why this brain washing agent, designed to keep us from questioning or objecting to what they (the elected leadership) are doing to our country and our world, is being slipped into us in spite of its horribly failing the toxicity studies.”

Bowen said Aspartame not only is found to be a strong carcinogen, but he called it “the number one brain carcinogen ever discovered by science!”  He wrote that the brain cancer rate in the US jumped ten percent the first six months after Aspartame was added to diet soda.

The sad part of this story is that the primary users of bubble gum are children.  If Dr. Bowen’s conspiracy theory is correct, it seems that someone has decided to destroy their little minds before they ever get a chance to grow up and make decisions for themselves.

If Bowen is wrong, then perhaps the makers of bubble gum in America have consumed so much Aspartame over the years, they are not thinking clearly enough to realize what they have just done.

In answer to several requests about alternative gums, I personally did some research and found little to none in health stores or markets.  The only “healthy” gums had alternative toxins.  However, Dr. Betty Martini, (www.dorway.com), did state that there are some safe, she feels, alternatives to gum coming very soon now.  That’s the closest nibble I can find.
